Hello, and welcome to Out About Scotland, the independent guide to finding the best things to do in Scotland. I’m Craig Neil, the writer, photographer, admin, and pretty much everything else behind this website.
Originally from Edinburgh, I’ve always had a love of Scotland and some of my best childhood memories are the times I spent romping around the wilds of the Highlands, wild camping, and finding new places to explore.
As soon as I was old enough to travel on my own I continued my adventures, and over the years I’ve been everywhere from the tips of the Outer Hebrides to the furthest regions of the Highlands and the Scottish Borders, so I have a good idea of which places are worth visiting and which are best avoided.
I started Out About Scotland in 2017 after becoming fed up with searching for things to do in Scotland and finding myself overwhelmed by the vast amount of information on the internet.
Most websites forget to mention the must-know details, like: are there toilets? Is there a car park? What else is in the area?, so I figured I could do better myself.
Due to the fact I’ve travelled so much around the country I can show you the best places to visit, including all the wee hidden-away gems that are off the standard tourist trails as well as the more famous sites that are probably already on your ‘must-do’ list.
In the main menu, you’ll find attractions in Scotland listed by region along with an interactive map that will help you see where each one is located. There are also links to articles about Scotland covering topics such as General Information, Places to Visit, and Travel Tips and Advice, and to give you the best view of what Scotland’s attractions are really like, there’s a map of 360° virtual tours.
